    • Land Acknowledgement

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress of Saskatchewan acknowledges that our work and the activities of our community extend across lands covered by Treaties 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10, the traditional lands of the Cree, Dakota, Dene, Lakota, Nakota and Saulteaux peoples, as well as the homeland of the Métis.

Individually and as a community, we honour the deep Indigenous roots in this land as well as the legacy of the Ukrainian settlers who arrived seeking peace and opportunity.

The teachings of tobacco as well as the traditions of the bound-wheat Didukh, embody the spirits of our Indigenous and Ukrainian ancestors. They shape who we are and how, together, we live on this land. Both are gifts of life, prayer, and memory, grounding us in respect for the past and responsibility for the future.

As part of our ongoing commitment to truth and reconciliation, we pay our respect to the Indigenous and Métis ancestors of this place and to those who have suffered, while recognizing the historical and ongoing injustices caused by the colonization process.

As we walk forward together, we commit to taking meaningful action to build a more just and respectful Canada.
